World Heritage Sites in Andalusia
This luxury train travels through important cities in Andalusia, such as Seville, Jerez, Cádiz, Ronda, Cordoba, Úbeda, Baeza, Granada, and Malaga, showcasing 10 UNESCO World Heritage Sites along the way:
SEVILLE
Seville is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful and interesting cities in Spain and the world, renowned for its history and culture.
It has 3 UNESCO World Heritage Sites since 1987: The monumental ensemble formed by the Catedral and its Giralda, the Archivo de Indias, and the Real Alcázar. These sites not only exhibit monumental beauty but also represent excellent preservation and the significant historical phases of this city (Muslim, Christian, and the 16th-century port of the Indies).
CORDOBA
The historic center of Cordoba was declared a World Heritage Site in two stages: the Mezquita de Cordoba on May 9, 1984, and the Historic Center, an extension of the Mezquita, in October 1994, due to its rich monumental heritage and the influence of various cultures that inhabited Cordoba.
Additionally, Cordoba has received other UNESCO recognitions: the Fiesta of Los Patios (2012) and Medina Azahara (2018), located 8 km from Cordoba.
ÚBEDA AND BAEZA
The historic cities of Úbeda and Baeza were declared World Heritage Sites in 2003 and are considered the most important representation of the Spanish Renaissance, preserving their original layout.
Úbeda represents private architecture and civil power, while Baeza represents public architecture and religious power. Both cities are architecturally significant for their urban layouts and the importance of their buildings.
GRANADA
In 1984, the ensemble formed by the Alhambra and the Generalife was declared a World Heritage Site. Ten years later, in 1994, the Albaicín neighborhood was added.
The Alhambra and the Generalife represent an original and unique architectural ensemble worldwide, showcasing extraordinary artistic achievement and symbolizing the Islamic era in Spain.
Since 1984, the most visited monument in Spain has been the Alhambra and the Generalife.
